About 800 diagnoses are reported annually most recently
the HIV epidemic is not over yet

In Japan, for the goal of 95-95-95, the first number is around 90%, but the other two numbers have already crossed 95%.

Total population with HIV in Japan is above 30,000, so we can assume there are about 3,000 people who are not aware of their infection.

The annually new infection number of HIV was at a steady level around 1,500 during the 10 years period before COVID-19. And a slightly decreasing trend has been witnessed recently, the number is below 1,000 annually with a number of 884 in 2022.

We can assume there wouldn’t be a severe deviation between the actual number and the reported number. The continual providing of treatment and consistent support from NGO and NPO have been proved to be effective in Japan. However, this doesn’t mean the epidemic is over. The key issue is to analyze the infection trend by demographic and geographic differences and continuously provide precise support.
